Every song, every album seems to being getting better than the previous release.

Well if any of us are questioning why America's Economy is experiencing the turmoil that it is faced with today, here is a prime example of how reckless deregulation of our financial companies can effect not only America, but also the rest of the world's economy.

The Keating Five Scandal of 1989 shows us the birth of the bubble that popped on us a few weeks back. Who else would be a "Maverick" to take part in it other than John McCain? After receiving millions of US dollars and political benefits in acts of fraud, John McCain was exonerated (along with NASA hero and former U.S. Senator, John Glenn) for the part he played with five other senators in preventing and intimidating regulators after the Lincoln Savings and Loan institute blew up and robbed thousands of innocent bank clients for billions of dollars of their entire life savings.

Say what you want to about this being a ploy to salt the name of John McCain, but the simple fact is it happened. He (along with Glenn) side step all the issues due to "poor judgment".

How can we as a country which is facing the biggest economical crisis in U.S. History trust someone who helped to keep deregulation as a part of the U.S. economy? I might have a second opinion of McCain if he truly was sorry about what happened in the Keating scandal by switching his stance on regulating U.S. banks. However, even after the case in 1990, McCain has been a supporter of deregulation all the way until March of 2008, some 13 years later. The only reason why he flip flopped on his stance were political and knowing that the bed he had made would be brought completely to light.

What's funky, awesome, and maybe the best album TVOTR has released so far (I'm a sucker for hype)? The answer is obvious; Dear Science. As I mentioned in the previous sentence, this is both funkier (see: Golden Age) and more consistent than Return to Cookie Mountain. I know I suck at writing long reviews, so instead I'll provide a song walkthrough.

The opener, Halfway Home, begins with a wall of sound strangely similar to Wolf Like Me, but after some seconds it departs in another direction as Tunde Adebimpe's monotonous vocals come in. During the song, the guitars adapt an almost Loveless-esque sound and create a great, melancholic soundscape together with the hypnotic vocals. Both The Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine come to mind, in an awesome, non-plagiarism, kind of way.

Crying is the first funky song on the album. Mixing noise pop electronics, falsetto singing and horns, this is a very interesting listen.

Dancing Choose is a faster song than the previous two, starting with a rap over either a massively distorted bass or electronic noise. It then develops into a full post-punk-funk assault, ending with a battle between the horns and guitars.

The fourth song, Stork & Owl, is a calmer and sadder song, featuring almost-Gregorian chanting, searing Godspeed You! Black Emperor-like strings with electronic drums and handclaps.

Golden Age sounds more like Prince than anything. Danceable, catchy and funky (that word can't be said too many times when describing this album). You can still hear the characteristic, fat guitars in the background though. They're just a bit quieter than usual.

Family Tree is another slow song, not entirely unlike Stork & Owl. The strings are back, and they're maybe even more beautiful this time. This is also one of the more post-rock-ish songs on the album, featuring a long buildup ending in an epic climax.

Red Dress swiftly turns you upside down after the calming previous song. "Fuck your war, 'cause I'm fat and in love, and no bombs are falling on me for sure." A wonderful line to start an awesome, sexy, afro-beat-y song. This is a really cool pop song, but also brings The Mars Volta to mind at some instrumental parts (listen 02.25 minutes into this song and tell me that isn't true). There's also some really epic horn work going on here.

Love Dog. The only song I cant stop listening to when I first got the rip. This is very much in the same vein as "Wear You Out" from Desperate Youth, but it doesn't really match the other ones on Dear Science. However, this might be my most favorite song on the album. Either way, this is a moodier song, featuring a long build up, the strings once again, and sad vocals.

Shout Me Out is such an amazing song that I nearly can't grasp it. It's got a driving beat, underwater-sounding super-psychedelic guitars, and a ridiculously catchy melody. A future indie classic, maybe even beating Wolf Like Me as the most sing-a-long-ish and catchy TVOTR tune. True indie pop goodness.

DLZ is perhaps the darkest song on this album. It's like Joy Division covering In Rainbows spiced up with some Burial night time moodiness. It's still really catchy though. "Who's next?"

Lover's Day finally closes the album, featuring the return of the massive Return to Cookie Mountain foghorn guitars and frantic drumming. The melancholic melody, post-rock build-ups, and marching band feel fits prefectly together. A perfect closer.

In conclusion, go get this fucking album and thank the staff at hoes and chokers (big up to Babir for finding the rip the day it was leaked)...

I was watching ABC where Cindy McCain was trying to credential and defended Palin's experience on foreign policy by saying that because Alaska is the closest state in the US to Russia is apart of her experience. 1.5 years as a governor and 1 term as a mayor. Now check this lack of political professionalism. I found this on Digg.com and is pretty interesting on how she reacts to a radio talk show host calling her rival a "bitch" "a cancer(which she is actualy suffering from)", and indicating that she has a big ole' ass. Read below for the story by Nico Pitney from Huff:

Early this year, an op-ed in the Anchorage Daily News ripped into Gov. Sarah Palin's appearance on a morning "shock jock" radio show as "plain and simple one of the most unprofessional, childish and inexcusable performances I've ever seen from a politician."

So what happened? Palin has repeatedly feuded with the state's Senate president, Lyda Green, over a wide range of legislation. Last January, Palin appeared on "The Bob and Mark Show," whose host Bob Lester despises Green. That's when the trouble started:

Early on in the conversation before Palin started to crack up, Lester referred to Sen. Green as a jealous woman and a cancer. Palin, who knows full well Lyda Green is a cancer survivor, didn't do what any decent person would do, say, "Bob, that's going too far."

But as the conversation moved on, Lester intensified his attack on Green.

Lester questioned Green's motherhood, asking Palin if the senator cares about her own kids. Palin laughs.

Then Lester clearly sets the stage for what he is about to say by warning his large audience and Palin. He says, "Governor you can't say this but I will, Lyda Green is a cancer and a b----." Palin laughs for the second time.

What were teenage boys thinking when they heard the governor laugh at someone being called a b----? How about the teenage girls who look up to Palin. What did they think when they heard her laugh?

But there is more. Lester then describes Green's chair as big and cushy. A clear reference to the senator's weight. Palin laughs a third time. She's just having a grand old time.

Palin was clearly enjoying every second of Lester's vicious attack on her political rival.

F' all tha ROBOlicans. Everyone of them seems like they are powered by a battery pack. It's pretty obvious who will be the best representative for the U.S.

No contest...this is the best news of the day in what has been a dreadfully long Monday. As reported by Pitchfork, TV on the Radio have announced the title and release date of their new album!!! The highly-anticipated follow-up to Return to Cookie Mountain (i.e. my personal choice as album of the year in 2006) is titled "Dear Science," and is due out September 23rd. Sooner than I would have expected. This just makes my day. The TVOTR boys have lined up some live dates for September as well, but it's a small little thing and A-Town isn't on tap. I'm not worried. With a new album, I'm confident they'll embark on a much larger tour in the months to come.

Fortunately, while it might be a slow day for hoes in chokers, it seems to be a busy day for me. I've been asking peeps if they'd seen a rip from One Day as a Lion, the new project by Rage Against the Machine frontman Zach De La Rocha, and they hadn’t, so I searched for a rip like my balls were on the line to fin this EP that comes out Tuesday, but also hit the scene a couple of days ago. I think this release really flew under the radar because no one had heard of One Day as a Lion, just kind of because of the sudden-ness of the release. The single hit radio this week, the EP comes out next week, it’s just kind of fast. I was a big fan of Rage Against the Machine, so this is something, that although I was not expecting, I’m looking forward to checking out.

One Day As A Lion is the creation of musical comrades Zack De La Rocha & Jon Theodore. This is music about space - the space between friends and collaborators where ideas form; the space in a song where the tension builds waiting for the next wave of sound; the space in the corners of the recording studio (Sinatra’s old room at Ocean Way) where the sound gathers to fade and die. One Day As A Lion worked hard to capture that space on tape, unadulterated, unmolested, from heart to hand to skins to mics to tape to speaker to ear. The result, someone said, sounds like Led Zep meets Dr. Dre.

Schnappp!!! Recently, NetFlix blessed me with the movie Control (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421082/) that features the life and times of the lead singer/songwriter for Joy Division, Ian Curtis. This is probably one of the best biopics I've ever seen. Sam Riley definitely played the part of Ian Curtis to the f'n "T".Even though Curtis's life is one of tragedy, this movie, traces the roots of the creators of the post-punk movement from their start in 1977 to Curti's death in 1980. The acting during the movie made me feel like I was watching a documentary more so than watching an actual movie because the songs (all sung by the actors) and the portrayals made me feel like these were the actual members of the band. Anyway, see for yourself and thank me later.

Back in the fall, I was drinking a lot of Red Bulls and they really made me feel like I was being shot out of a cannon. I loved the stuff. Problem is, that junk is expensive. Who can afford to drink more than one a day? Certainly not me. My money goes to more enterprising pursuits, like building weapons of mass destruction and buying drinks. I wish I could drink six or seven cans of the stuff a day to keep me going, but until I win the lottery, that’s not happening. When I was in the convenience store the other day, though, I saw this new energy drink called Power Up, so I decided to give it a shot.

Let me tell you, that stuff is amazing. They’re half the price of the Bull with a smart ass Super Mario as the cover boy and they get my heart going even faster. It’s incredible. I drink a whole mess of them at lunchtime and then I’m awake until the sun comes up. It really helps me get through the workday and then my real workday, which starts at around 10pm (super hero; weapons include a can of hairspray and a book of strip club matches). It’s hard to explain the feeling I get, but it’s like someone hooked up a battery to my body and it’s in charge of making my blood flow, but the dial that controls the speed got messed up and it’s stuck on “super fast.” That’s exactly what it feels like. That, or stepping on an exposed wire at a construction site where you’re trying to scam some copper late at night. I know what that feels like and Power Up is pretty similar.

I decided I have to limit myself to three or four a day or else I’m going to get in some real trouble. Any more than that and I get pretty aggressive. Last week, I drank five cans of the sauce and when this new lady started questioning me about what I did at work, I freaked out. I started imagining me and her on a go-kart track, but she didn’t have a go-kart and my go-kart had all kinds of James Bond spy weapons on it. Right when I started picturing myself shooting her with my dashboard missiles, I realized I needed to take it down a notch. I’m not a violent person, but there’s something in that Power Up that makes me craaaaaaazy.

I wonder if they sell a decaf version…

On May 9, a small group of friends including myself, got to witness one of the best live performances of my life, Radiohead. Even being penned up against the furthest wall in the venue, we still had the best seats in general admission (basically because we kept people from sitting in front of us by saying "there's an ant bed there". This show marks my second attendance of one of their shows and I have to say I am more impressed by my second outing than my first. Don't get me wrong, the first show I saw in '98 was dope, but this one was straight off the D.I.C. They mosdef aren't getting my normal comment to an aging group of "Hey, I like your old shit waaaayyyyy better than your new shit".

Anywho, peep this video from the Scotch Mist session back on New Years of 2008. They run through every song on the "In Rainbows" album. Dope ish. PZ.

Below is an article I ran across this morning while surfing for something of some substance. You know straight internet joy riding. I'm not going to summarize the article since I cut and pasted it below; however, I find it really interesting that there are no hip hop songs on this list. Not even one Dead Prez, Public Enemy song? Why is this? In my honest opinion, I believe the conservative people of Clear Channel don't see hip hop as a threat. It's not a threat! One of the most famous cases of alleged banned songs occurred several days after September 11, 2001. As the story goes, a Program Director at one of the Clear Channel Radio stations, decided on his own to compile a list of songs that might be considered in "bad taste" - if played - following the awful events of 9/11.

The list was simply meant to be suggestions or a guideline from his point of view. There was no official corporate backing or endorsement from the company.

The songs on the list, either because of title or content, were considered to be remindful of the images still vivid in the minds of Americans after the tragedy in New York City.

The list was probably unofficially shared or distributed internally to other Program Directors. Clear Channel employees often share programming ideas and information with one another.

From there, a copy of it leaked out and immediately took on a life of its own in the outside media. It was soon flashed across the Internet and deemed by web surfers to be an official company policy, which was not true.

Damn, I feel you Ghost. 30,000 units when you got like 100,000 + friends on myspace? Imma buy his disc, but only when I see him have it on sale when he tours. The reason I dont feel bad is that I saw Ghost 3 times in 2007: Rock the Bells San Fran, Roxy ATL, and Scion show in ATL (free). The reason why I didnt buy his album is because I am busy and don' t have time for music stores. Hell, the last two albums I bought (Radiohead and Saul Williams) allowed me to pick the price I wanted to pay for it on a instant download after the purchase. I dont care about album covers or bulky cd cases, plus those last two albums I bought put more money in the artist pocket than by me going to the store to buy them.

Here is the reasoning: An artist gets like $.85 - $1.25 per CD sold. The majority of remaining money goes to the record label, production, and promotion. When the artist does the select your own price model they get to by pass the record label's cut and only have to really pay for production and promotion of the music which allows the artist to bring in almost twice the amount they would have pulled in per album than the traditional retail model.

I hate it for Ghost cause he deserves a Mighty Healthy payday. I will buy his album as soon as either I see him rock a show with a merch table or I catch a good .mp3 (256kb) download that allows me to pick my price. Artist have to realize who holds the power right now for album sales.

Dog The Bounty Hunter, what an idiot. I cant believe this dude risked millions of dollars to get some shit off his chest, even if it was suppose to be off the record. This is 2007 and there are cameras and microphones in damn near every phone, streetlight, and even pen. Everybody in America knows the history and the potency of saying the word 'Nigger' and if he was dumb enough to let that word out of his mouth to someone who does not care about his career, then he deserves the repercussions. Yeah, this country is built off of the principle of "freedom of speech", but this country is also built upon thousands among thousands of lies. He has a certain level of responsibility not to just his family and his career to keep his nose clean on and off the record, but he also has an unspoken responsibility to the people who cut his check not to tarnish their brand with his opinions. When he owns his own vehicle to get his show out independently then sure he can proudly say it, but seeing that someone else cuts his check then he needs to stfu when he wants to vent stupid shit to people who don't care about his career. Dog really should have taken a cue from Michael Richards and Don Imus from earlier this year who also lost thousands of dollars for being dumb and ranting "nigger" like it is Alabama in in the summer of 1955 or some shit. Rich rednecks just have to be smarter than that and know their place. BTW, I'm an African American male and not for one second do I think people of other races don’t say this word behind closed or open doors, nor do I even care if they call me a 'nigger' cause they can not stop their daughter from wanting to fuck me :).
